1. MANDALAY HILL

Mandalay Hill is a 240 meter high hill that gives you an incredible view of the whole city. The way up was more than we expected. If you are on a motorcycle you will have to pay a toll upon entering the area. The toll tax is 300 MMK (approx. €0,20).

Once on the top you will an entrance with one escalator and an elevator. Don’t forget to cover yourself and take off your shoes.

The entrance fee is 1000 MMK (approx. €0,60) per person.


Travel Tip: Rent a motorbike during your stay in Mandalay. The distance are quite long. The price is around 15000 MMK (approx. €8,50) per day.


2. MANDALAY PALACE

Mandalay Palace is a huge citadel located near to the Mandalay Hill. Since this place is so huge is nice to walk around and also for getting out of the chaos of the city. However there isn’t really much to see or do.

The entrance fee is 10000 MMK (approx. €5,95) per person. There is a combo ticket that also gives you entry to Kuthodaw Pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery, among others.

3. KUTHODAW PAGODA

Kuthodaw Pagoda it is an impressive place to visit. Unfortunately during our stay in Mandalay the weather did not help and on the day we were visiting this place it would not stop raining.

The Kuthodaw Pagoda is a Buddhist stupa that contains the world’s largest book and is surrounded by an insane amount of white pagodas.

The entrance fee is 10000MMK (approx. €5,95) per person, but like we said before there is a combo ticket.

4. ZAY CHO MARKET

Markets are our weak point and when we travel we don’t lose one. It is a perfect place to see the local routine, to see local products, spices and other delicious things. Market opens at 6 AM until 5 PM.

5. SANDAMUNI PAGODA

Sandamuni Pagoda is a Buddhist stupa located near to Mandalay Hill. The pagoda was erected at the provisional location of the royal palace, the Nanmyay Bontha. It contains the grave of Sagu Mintha, Malun, Kanaung and Maingpyin Princes.


6. SHWENANDAW MONASTERY

This historic Buddhist monastery is full of beautiful wooden details. It is a small place so you don’t need a lot of time but is worth it for a visit.

7. MINGUN PAHTODAWGYI

The Mingun Pagoda is one of the kind. Is an incomplete monument stupa in Mingun. Located across the Iraawaddy river, which is about 90 minute drive out of town. Walk around of the pagoda you will be impressed with this unfinished beauty.

Travel Tip: To entrance the Mingun Region you have to pay 5000 MMK (approx. €2,95) per person. Make sure you have money because there is no ATM machines nearby.

8. MYA THEIN TAN PAGODA

Known as well as Hsinbyume Pagoda is a beautiful white pagoda. You can walk around and up the stairs to explore every level of the pagoda.

Although it seems from the photos, it is not a very big pagoda but it is no reason to stop visiting this place.

9. LION ROCK

Arriving in Mingun, locals will tell you to visit Lion Rock. Despite being a large rock destroyed before it was a lion. But due to the earthquake was destroyed.


10. U-BEIN BRIDGE

U-Bein Bridge is 1200 meter long wooden footbridge is known as the longest in the world and because of that is one of main attractions of Mandalay. You can do a boat tour but make sure that the weather is good for that.
Is located 20 min drive from the city center.

Travel Tip: Arrive before the sunset where you can see how the locals are relaxing here and you as well!!
