For us Phi Phi Island has always been a destination we had to go yes or yes. They are stunningly beautiful and surely rank as one of the best attractions in southern Thailand.
But don’t be fooled by the paradisiacal beaches that appear in the photographs.
Unfortunately, in Thailand this ceased to exist, especially in the high season (November to April).
Nevertheless, we will detail the best things to do and see in the fantastic Phi Phi island.

1. THE WELL-KNOWN – MAYA BAY
Great expectations on this place. Like we said before, probably because of
Belongs to the Hat Nopharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, and became world-famous after the release of the movie “The Beach”, with Leonardo Di Caprio.
With clear crystal waters, white sand and lush tropical vegetation, Maya Bay gathers every detail to be the place for an expectant visit.
After the release of the movie, Maya Bay becomes high demanded by tourists. The access to the beach is by boat, you can buy a half day or full day boat tour, or a private longtail boat.
We bought the half day tour with several stops through the island, and one of the stop was Maya Bay. We stayed there for almost one hour. By the time we arrived to the beach we were fortunate that most of the others tour boats left, so we have more and less 20 minutes with a few of tourists. During this time, we enjoy this place a LOT. Despite the constant crowds, this is a beautiful and paradise beach and it is worth for a visit.
Travel tips: since this beach belongs to a National Park, beside the tour boat you have to pay an entrance fee of 400 baths (approx. €12.00) per person to your tour guide in cash.
2. VIEW POINTS
Yes, let’s talk in the plural. We visited two viewpoints.
The famous View Point 1 (I love Phi Phi Island) – You will find queues for this Instagram spot; If you are patience, just wait a little bit and you can record this moment, and of course the view, which is really incredible.
Travel tips: for this viewpoint you have to pay entrance of 2 Baths (approx. €0.05) per person to climb up.
The View Point restaurant – Not so known, which is awesome in Thailand!! Imagine yourself having lunch with Phi Phi Island as background scene. And here, the entrance is free!

3. MONKEY BEACH
The famous beach in Phi Phi, is, as the name says, crowded with monkeys. This beach was another point of visit of our tour. The guides dock the boat, and then you go with Kaiak to the beach.
When you begin to approach the beach, you can see lot of monkeys waiting for us (probably because they know that we bring food).
You can stay there almost 30 minutes, your guide is always at your side, because you already know how the monkeys are, suddenly they jump up at you, or they take your camera or cell phone, so the tour guide is there to distracted them with food.
So, our advice is, be careful with these little thieves!
Snorkeling and Diving are the prime activities in Phi Phi, and through the island you can find a large number of dive centres and day trips to many world-class dive sites.
Unfortunately for lack of time we didn’t dive, but during our half day tour we had the opportunity to do some snorkeling, which by the way, WE LOVE TO DO!
5. VIKING CAVE
Another cool spot on this fantastic island is the Viking Cave; featuring ‘ancient’ paintings figuring what seems to be drakkars; the only experience that we had was looking from our boat tour, however we think there are some tours to this cave which explains a little more the history about it. Or just rent a long tail boat and spend half day there.
THERE IS ANOTHER ACTIVITIES THAT YOU CAN DO IN THE ISLAND:
Captain Bob’s Booze Cruise – it is an excursion trip that involves jumping on a boat and touring the island while you drink and enjoy a party atmosphere;
Bamboo Island – is one of the six islands belonging to the Phi Phi archipelago and is another tropical dream come true.
Nightlife – you have plenty of pubs or bars centrally located and easy to find. This atmosphere is so vibrant, entertaining, and young. You definitely have to go and enjoy!
6. WHERE TO STAY?
