1. CITY PALACE

This beautiful palace was built over a period of nearly 400 years in a flamboyant style. It is considered the largest palace in the state of the Rajasthan. In the top of the hill, this palace offers an incredible panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. From there you can see the Lake Pichola, the Lake Palace, Jag Mandir among others historic monuments.

The price per person is 700 INR (approx. €9,00); If you have the international student card the price is 400 INR (approx. €5,20). For the audio guide there is a supplement of 200 INR (approx. €2,60). If you like to know more detailed information you must buy the audio guide, however along the palace there are a lot of signs and information boards in English.

Travel Tip: Along the visit you will see a lot of uniformed guards, they are not supposed to ask for tips (as per rules displayed) but some of them do when you take a picture of them.

2. LAKE PICHOLA

The moment you arrive to Udaipur you will see this beautiful lake. It is an artificial fresh water lake and it is one of the several connecting lakes around this famous city.
There are four islands on this lake:
Jag Niwas, where the Lake Palace is built.
Jag Mandir, with one palace with the same name.
Mohan Mandir, where the King wathc the annual Gangaur festival celebration.
Arsi Vilas, it is a small island where its possible to enjoy a beautiful on the lake.

Travel Tip: watch the sunset next to the lake, the colors are just breathtaking.

3. JAG MANDIR

It is a palace built in one of the two natural islands in the Lake Pichola and it’s also called the “Lake Garden Palace”.

It is named as “Jag Mandir” in honor of the last named Maharana Jagat Singh. The royal family used this palace as a summer resort and pleasure palace for holding parties.

4. GANGAUR GHAT

This is the perfect place to sit, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this city. The Gangaur Ghat is know for the long stairs, where tourists and locals gather on the late afternoon to watch the sunset.

5. FATEH SAGAR LAKE

It is an artificial lake in the city of Udaipur, but the surrounding of this lake is still beautiful. You can take a long walk around this lake. In the evening you will find several locals practicing sports.

6. AMBAMATA NEIGHBORHOOD

One of the things we enjoy doing the most when we arrive to a new city, and of course, if we have time for it, it’s walking aimlessly. No maps and no GPS.

Since we had time to do it in Udaipur we started to walk without any destination. After crossing the bridge we arrived to the Ambamata Neighnorhood.

It was a neighborhood that, at the moment we arrived, opened their arms. People call us to talk or take a picture with us. We saw street traders and even women buying jewelry in the middle of the street.

During our visit to this neighborhood we were walking down a narrow street and suddenly a gentleman opened the door of his house and invited us in. He was an art teacher, and he painted some beautiful postcards (which we later found out that Udaipur is known for its art and several artists are painting these postcards). This gentleman called his wife and son and we had a good time with them drinking masala chai and telling stories. It was a very good moment with this beautiful family.

7. AHAR MUSEUM

The Ahar Museum, know as well as Ahar Cenotaphs, are a group of cenotaphs located about 2 km of Udaipur. This place contains more than 250 cenotaphs of maharajas that were built over 350 years.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit this place because on Mondays is closed, but is open the rest of the week from 12 pm until 8 pm. The price for the Ahar Museum is 3 INR (approx. €0,03 per person) but for the Cenotaphs the entrance is free.

AROUND THE CITY

Udaipur is a city with a lot of scenic places and temples. We highly recommend to walk around of the city, see the daily routine of the locals, go the locals stores and markets, and even attend a celebration in a temple.

We recommend you to visit the Cafe La Comida is one of the best coffees in Udaipur and the Sun N Moon restaurant rooftop. Is one of highest buildings of city and the view is just breathtaking!
