Pokhara was one of our favorite places in Nepal. The serenity of the lake and the cool vibe make it an amazing place to relax before or after a trekking week.
Surrounded by the mountains you will find a lot of accommodation options, nice cafes and bakeries, pubs to have some fun, yoga classes and people with a huge heart. Pokhara is this kind of city that travelers stay longer than planned!!
Usually this place is the second stop for all tourists that come from Kathmandu to make the trekking around the Himalayas.
Is known as the city of the lakes as there are around 8 lakes to be discovered around the area. From Pokhara everyone leave for the trekking and there are a lot of options like 3, 5, 7 and 14 days.
If you don’t want to do it by yourself, you can find a company that helps you organizing everything. From the permits to the tour guide.

1. WORLD PEACE PAGODA
Located on the top of the hill, the views to the lake and the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. You can go by bus and then hike for 45 minutes or you can go by boat crossing the lake and then a short hike to the top.
The price of the boat one way with the driver is NPR 700 (approx. €5,60) or both ways with driver is NPR 1200 (approx. €9,60).
If you are lucky and the weather is good you will see the Himalayas from the pagoda.
2. SARANGKOT VIEW POINT
Located 1700 meters above Pokhara, the Sarangkot View Point offers you and incredible views. If it’s a good day and it’s not cloudy just go there to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature. Many people do it for sunrise but we were a bit lazy to do it!!
3. DAVIS FALLS AND MAHENDRA CAVE
If you are traveling Asia and already saw many caves, probably the Mahendra Cave is not going to impress you. But if you have some free time and like visit caves this is a good option. It’s right in front of the Davis Falls so you can combine both activities for the same morning or afternoon.
The entrance fee is NPR 100 (approx. €0,80) per person.
Same story of the Mahendra Cave, if you are used to see and explore waterfalls around Asia this Davis Falls is not going to surprise you.
Nevertheless, this waterfall is the most popular in Pokhara because of its story. On 31st July 1961, a swiss couple Davi went for a swim but, unfortunately, the woman drowned in a pit because of the overflow which caused her death. Her father wished to name it “Davi’s falls” after her.
The entrance fee is NPR 30 (approx. €0,25) per person and you cannot swim here.
Are you ready to fly?! In Pokhara you can do paragliding. It’s much cheaper do it in Pokhara if you compare with other countries or cities. Tours can be arranged by any agency in Pokhara.
It takes around 30 to 45 minutes and the cost is US $90 per person.
5. AROUND THE LAKE IN POKHARA
This lake is really peaceful, a walk around the lake is very good and relaxed. You can also rent a boat which is very cheap, the price is NPR 500 (approx. €4,00)
We do recommend you to watch the sunset here. The colors are just amazing!
Around the city you can find an incredible vibe, between the locals stores to coffees and restaurants.
We loved Pokhara because of the serenity of the place that combine nature, friendly people, amazing viewpoints and a cool vibe.
After one month in India we really needed this brake, some peace and some fresh air from the mountains! We can’t recommend you stay there for 3, 4, 10 days or even a month because it really depends if you are going for trekking and how many days you will spend there.
But we can ensure that you will enjoy the place!!
